Vermessungs-Abteilung 624 was set up in Military District VI on August 26, 1939. The department was an army troop. On May 2, 1941, the department was renamed Vermessungs- und Karten-Abteilung 624. From 1942 it was subordinate to the AOK Norway. In December 1944 the department was disbanded. The staff was deployed in Groß-Born and the Karten battery became the independent Karten-Batterie 624 in Norway.
